Observance of the 43rd National and Independence Day 2014

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu celebrated the 43rd National and Independence Day of Bangladesh on 26th March, 2014 with due respect and festivity.

 

The Mission organized a day-long programme to celebrate the National and Independence Day. The day’s programme began with hoisting of the national flag at the Chancery by H.E. the Ambassador in the morning. This was followed by a ‘Doa Mahfil’ where all present prayed for the eternal peace of the souls of martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice during the War of Liberation in 1971. The Doa Mahfil was followed by reading out of the Independence Day messages of the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs.

 

At 11:03 hrs (Bangladesh Standard Time 11:18 hrs) all present participated in performing the National Anthem simultaneously with en mass participation at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka. The morning’s programme was attended by Ambassador and officers and members of the staff of the Mission, SAARC secretariat officials and members of the expatriate Bangladesh community living in Kathmandu.

 

In the evening the Mission organized a reception at a five star Hotel to commemorate the day. The Chief Guest of the National Day Reception was Rt. Hon’ble Mr. Paramananda Jha, Vice President of Nepal. By a special arrangement the Nepal Army band played the national anthems of both the countries. The evening’s programmes included screening of videos showcasing the successes of Bangladesh and making of a short speech by the Ambassador where she highlighted the achievements of the last 43 years and outlined the high points of the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Nepal.

 

The programme was attended by number of Ministers of the Government of Nepal, former Prime Ministers, former Ministers, Secretaries, senior officials, eminent personalities, members of the diplomatic community, other dignitaries and members of the Bangladesh community.
