95th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day 2015

The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu celebrated the 95th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day on 17th March, 2015 with due dignity and festivity.

 

The day’s programme began by placing of floral wreaths in front of the portrait of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Chancery by the Ambassador and officers and members of the staff of the Mission, representatives of the SAARC Secretariat, Bangladesh Biman officials, children from various local schools and the expatriate Bangladesh community living in Kathmandu. The wreath laying ceremony was followed by a ‘Doa Mahfil’ where all present prayed for the salvation of the departed soul of Bangabandhu and for his martyred family members who were assassinated on 15 August 1975 as well as the eternal peace of the souls of martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the glorious War of Liberation in 1971. Doa was also sought for a peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh to and for the realization of ‘Sonar Bangla’ as envisioned by Bangabandhu..

 

The second part of the programme consisted of reading out of the messages of the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Foreign Minister. This was followed by a discussion session chaired by the Ambassador which began with reading out of the highlights of the life of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The speakers discussion focused on various aspects of Bangabandhu’s life, particularly his youth and his contribution to the politics of Bengal at his early age. The discussants at the session included the Principal of the Universal Preparatory School & College, officials from the SAARC Secretariat and members of the Bangladesh community living in Kathmandu. The discussion session was followed by a prize distribution ceremony to the winners of a painting and essay wiritn competition organized in collaboration with the Universal Preparatory College and School. H.E. the Ambassador distributed the prize to the winners of three categories of children participating in the competition. In her speech, the Ambassador paid homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled with due respects his life-long struggle to give the children of his country a happy and prosperous future.

 

The programme concluded with serving of traditional Bangalee cuisine.

 

The programme was attended by H.E. the Ambassador, offices and members of the staff of the Mission, representatives of the SAARC secretariat, Bangladesh Biman officials, children and faculty from various local schools and the expatriate Bangladesh community living in Kathmandu.
