Observance of the 44th National and Independence Day 2015

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu celebrated the 44th National and Independence Day of Bangladesh on 26th March, 2015 with due dignity and festivity.

 

The Mission organized a day-long programme to celebrate the National and Independence Day. The day’s programme began with hoisting of the national flag at the Chancery by the Ambassador in the morning. This was followed by a ‘Doa Mahfil’ where all present prayed for the eternal peace of the souls of martyred freedom fighters who laid down their lives during the glorious War of Liberation in 1971. Prayers were also said for the eternal peace of Father of the Nationa Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, whose indomitable spirit and selfless sacrifice led to the emergence of an independent Bangaldesh, his family members and national leaders who were brutally assassinated in 1975. The Doa Mahfil was followed by the reading out of the Independence Day messages of the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs. The morning’s programme was attended by the Ambassador of Bangladesh, officers and members of the Staff of the Bangladesh Embassy, Bangladesh nationals working in the SAARC Secretariat and members of the Bangladesh community residing in Nepal.

 

In the evening the Ambassador of Bangladesh hosted a reception to celebrate the day. Rt. Hon’ble Mr. Paramananda Jha, Vice President of Nepal attended the National and Independence Day Reception as the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by a number of Ministers of the government of Nepal, Members of the Parliament, former Prime Ministers, leaders of the political parties, high ranking bureaucrats and members of the Armed Forces, members of the civil society, representatives of the business community, media representatives distinguished cultural personalities, Ambassadors of various countries, diplomats, Heads of international organisations and members of the Bangladesh community residing in Nepal.

 

Earlier, Nepal Television recorded and broadcasted an interview of the Ambassador on the occasion of the Independence and National Day. The Mission also brought out a 24-page Special Publication to commemorate the day.
